Bean Lake

Trevor Neale

Thanks for a turely amazing couple of day sessions, what a lovley break from the pressured bait boat infested, bivvy bound lakes that seems to be the norm these days. I managed 14 fish on my very 1st visit to Bean Lake with eight of these being over 20lb with the biggest a 28lb heavenly scaled beauty. If you enjoy hunting your quarry from the edges in crystal clear water you will do well to find a better day ticket fishery for the price.

For me Bean Lake is carp fishing how it used to be, a quiet tranquil lake with grassy banks where you can simply select a spot and fish to the egdes for a carp you have spotted bubbling and rolling. There are no designated swims with huge consolidated and levelled "bivvy" platforms, no known "hot spots" that everyone casts to and waits for their number to come up and no permanetly occupied areas where everyone heads to, regardless of conditions.
For a relatively new lake it is very natural and a credit to the fishery manager. The fish stock is balanced which means compared to featureless over stocked "stew ponds" the fishing is slow, but the average size of fish is high, with one or two exceptional fish. The numbers of anglers fishing is controlled so that each angler has plenty of opportunity for stalking and searching for fish.
